To help encourage you to improve your health and push your comfort zones, our amazing sponsors gave participants the chance to win amazing prizes!

Dates and Details:

  • Contests are open from August 17-23, 2023.
  • No purchase necessary. Limit of one (1) entry per Contest per entrant.
  • Photos must be accompanied by photo consent form of all parties in the photograph as applicable. Please respect others’ privacy!
  • Online forms for submissions will be provided to all UBC Medical Alumni Association Wellness Week registrants.

Eligibility

  • Entrants must be registered for the 2023 UBC Medical Alumni Association Wellness Week held from August 17-23, 2023.
  • Contests open to entrants residing in Canada during the contest and who are the age of majority in their province of residence, excluding Quebec residents
  • UBC Medical Alumni Association Board Directors, Wellness Week Organizing Committee members, UBC Faculty of Medicine Development and Alumni Engagement employees, and Event Sponsors employees or their families are not eligible to enter these contests.

Contest submissions will be accepted until Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 11:59 pm PDT.

1. Better Together Contest

Take a photo of yourself and at least one other person (e.g. family member, friend, colleague) doing one (1) Activity. The number of visible faces in your photo will be equal to the number of entries for this contest. All entries will be entered into a random draw.

Prize: Group experience activity prize of the winner’s choosing*, up to a value of $400.00 CAD

2. New Activity Contest

Take a photo of yourself doing one (1) new-to-you Activity. The activity should be one that you have never done before. All entries will be entered into a random draw.

Prize: One (1) Browns Socialhouse gift card valued at $50.00 CAD

3. 7 days, 7 Unique Activities Contest

Take a different photo of yourself doing one (1) different Activity per day between August 17-23, 2023. One (1) entry is seven (7) photos. Activities can be athletic (e.g. yoga, rollerblading, dog walking, hiking) or relaxing-based (e.g. journaling, meditation, drawing, puzzles). All entries will be entered into a random draw.

4. Kitchen Creation Contest

Take a photo of one (1) food dish that you prepared, cooked, or baked, such as a chicken curry, pasta salad, or sourdough bread. Photos of prepared food dishes (e.g. a store-bought chocolate cake, restaurant takeout beef stew) are not eligible. All entries will be entered into a random draw.

Official Contest Rules

  1. Contest
    1. The UBC Medical Alumni Association is a contest sponsor of Better Together Contest, sponsored by MD Financial Management.
    2. This contest will be run from 12:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on August 17, 2023 and closes at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on August 23, 2023, and the winner will be selected on or about August 24, 2023.
  2. Eligibility
    1. This contest is open to entrants residing in Canada during the contest and who are the age of majority in their province of residence, excluding Quebec residents (“Entrant(s)”).
    2. UBC Medical Alumni Association Board Directors, Wellness Week Organizing Committee members, UBC Faculty of Medicine Development and Alumni Engagement employees, and Event Sponsors employees or their families are not eligible to enter this contest.

  3. How to Enter
    1. No purchase necessary. Limit of one (1) entry per Contest Entrant.
    2. To enter, take a photo of yourself and at least one other person (e.g. family member, friend, colleague) doing one (1) Activity. One (1) entry is equal to the number of visible faces in your one (1) photo. All entries will be entered into a random draw.
    3. Entries will be collected by an online form that will be sent to all registrants of the UBC Medical Alumni Association Wellness Week 2023, including a consent to use of image or recording for all persons in the photos if applicable, on or about August 22, 2023.

    5. The UBC Medical Alumni Association reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to the Official Contest Rules.
  4. Draw
    1. On or about August 24, 2023, a random draw will be conducted in or in the vicinity of Vancouver, British Columbia by the UBC Medical Alumni Association to select one (1) entry for the Prize. One (1) entrant will be selected from all eligible entries received. The odds of being selected as a potential winner are dependent upon the number of eligible entries received during the Contest period.
    2. Before being declared a winner of the Prize, the selected potential winner shall be required to: (1) respond to the UBC Medical Alumni Association in accordance with Section 4.3 of these Official Contest Rules; (2) answer, without assistance of any kind, a mathematical skill-testing question, and to comply with these Contest Rules; (3) may be required to swear an affidavit at their expense indicating eligibility and compliance with these Official Contest Rules; (4) provide written release consenting to the use of his/her name, city or province of residence and/or photograph or likeness, without compensation, in any publicity carried out by the UBC Medical Alumni Association and/or its advertising and promotional agencies relative to this Contest; and (5) may be required to sign release and indemnity at their expense whereby the winner releases and indemnifies and holds harmless the UBC Medical Alumni Association, its advertising and promotional agencies, the suppliers of the Prize, and all their respective employees, directors, officers, owners, agents, representatives, successors and assigns from any liability in connection with or arising out of the Contest, the awarding of the Prize, the use of the Prize or the use of any personal information.
    3. THE SELECTED POTENTIAL WINNER OF THE DRAW WILL BE NOTIFIED BY TELEPHONE OR E-MAIL NO LATER THAN August 30, 2023 at 5:00 pm Pacific Daylight Time using the contact information provided by the Contest entrant at the time of entering the Contest. Upon notification, THE SELECTED POTENTIAL WINNER OF THE DRAW MUST RESPOND WITHIN TEN CALENDAR DAYS by telephone or email to the contact number or email address provided in the notification. The selected potential winner’s response must be received by the UBC Medical Alumni Association within such ten calendar day period of such notification.
    4. If a selected potential winner fails to meet any of the requirements set out in these Official Contest Rules, they will be disqualified and another entrant will be selected from the remaining eligible entrants and, upon notification, will have TEN CALENDAR days to respond.
  5. Prize
    1. The Prize will be a group experience activity of the winner’s choice, with a value of up to $400.00 CAD. The winner will be contacted by the contest sponsor, MD Financial Management, to arrange the purchase of the prize that can be shared with 2 or more people, such as an escape room game, an art workshop, or group cooking class. If the activity costs less than $400.00 CAD, the difference between the amount will be forfeited by the winner. If the activity costs more than $400.00 CAD, the difference will be paid by the winner. The contest sponsor reserves the right to determine what activities are eligible as a prize.
    2. The Prize must be accepted as awarded. No substitutions of the prizes are permitted except by the UBC Medical Alumni Association at its discretion. The UBC Medical Alumni Association reserves the right to substitute the Prize with another Prize of equal or greater value if any prize cannot be awarded as described for any reason. The Prize is not transferable, assignable, or redeemable for cash or credit, in whole or in part.
    3. The UBC Medical Alumni Association may require winners to sign a liability/publicity release, including a consent to UBC posting the winner’s name and photograph on its website. If a winner fails to return the contest documents within the time specified by the UBC Medical Alumni Association, they will forfeit their prize and an alternate winner will be selected.
    4. The prize will be sent by mail from the contest sponsor to the winner by email or mail to the winner's Canadian address.
  6. General Rules
    1. By participating in this contest, each entrant and winner agrees to: (a) be bound by these Official Contest Rules and the decisions of the UBC Medical Alumni Association; and (b) release and hold harmless the UBC Medical Alumni Association and the Wellness Week Organizing Committee from and against any and all liabilities, losses, claims, demands, costs and expenses (including lawyer’s fees and litigation expenses on a solicitor and own client basis) whatsoever to which any of them may become subject arising from any actions or omissions by the entrant.
    2. By participating in this contest, each entrant and winner agrees that the UBC Medical Alumni Association may post the winner’s name on its website.
    3. The decisions of the UBC Medical Alumni Association in relation to this contest will be final and binding on all entrants.
    4. The UBC Medical Alumni Association reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or suspend this contest, at its discretion, at any time without prior notice.
    5. Each Prize claim is subject to verification by the UBC Medical Alumni Association and/or its designated representatives. Entries made with multiple addresses, under multiple identities, or through the use of any device or other method to enter multiple times or entries that are in excess of the permitted number of entries are automatically void. All contest entries obtained through unauthorized sources or which are incomplete or in any way not in compliance with these Official Contest Rules are automatically void. The UBC Medical Alumni Association is not responsible for lost or late entries. The UBC Medical Alumni Association is not responsible for any miscommunications, failed communications systems, software malfunctions, or for any human errors in connection with this contest. The UBC Medical Alumni Association may suspend or terminate this contest if the UBC Medical Alumni Association is of the view this contest’s administration or fair play has been compromised.

Official Contest Rules

  1. Contest
    1. The UBC Medical Alumni Association is a contest sponsor of the Kitchen Creation Contest, sponsored by the UBC Medical Alumni Association.
    2. This contest will be run from 12:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on August 17, 2023 and closes at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on August 23, 2023, and the winner will be selected on or about August 24, 2023.
  2. Eligibility
    1. This contest is open to entrants residing in Canada during the contest and who are the age of majority in their province of residence, excluding Quebec residents (“Entrant(s)”).
    2. UBC Medical Alumni Association Board Directors, Wellness Week Organizing Committee members, UBC Faculty of Medicine Development and Alumni Engagement employees, and Event Sponsors employees or their families are not eligible to enter this contest.

  3. How to Enter
    1. No purchase necessary. Limit of one (1) entry per Contest Entrant.
    2. To enter, take a photo of one (1) food dish that you prepared, cooked, or baked, such as a chicken curry, pasta salad, or sourdough bread. Photos of pre-prepared food dishes (e.g. a store-bought chocolate cake, restaurant takeout beef stew) are not eligible. All entries will be entered into a random draw.
    3. Entries will be collected by an online form that will be sent to all registrants of the UBC Medical Alumni Association Wellness Week 2023, including a consent to use of image or recording for all persons in the photos if applicable, on or about August 22, 2023.

    5. The UBC Medical Alumni Association reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to the Official Contest Rules.
  4. Draw
    1. On or about August 25, 2023, a random draw will be conducted in or in the vicinity of Vancouver, British Columbia by the UBC Medical Alumni Association to select one (1) entry for the Prize. One (1) entrant will be selected from all eligible entries received. The odds of being selected as a potential winner are dependent upon the number of eligible entries received during the Contest period.
    2. Before being declared a winner of the Prize, the selected potential winner shall be required to: (1) respond to the UBC Medical Alumni Association in accordance with Section 4.3 of these Official Contest Rules; (2) answer, without assistance of any kind, a mathematical skill-testing question, and to comply with these Contest Rules; (3) may be required to swear an affidavit at their expense indicating eligibility and compliance with these Official Contest Rules; (4) provide written release consenting to the use of his/her name, city or province of residence and/or photograph or likeness, without compensation, in any publicity carried out by the UBC Medical Alumni Association and/or its advertising and promotional agencies relative to this Contest; and (5) may be required to sign release and indemnity at their expense whereby the winner releases and indemnifies and holds harmless the UBC Medical Alumni Association, its advertising and promotional agencies, the suppliers of the Prize, and all their respective employees, directors, officers, owners, agents, representatives, successors and assigns from any liability in connection with or arising out of the Contest, the awarding of the Prize, the use of the Prize or the use of any personal information.
    3. THE SELECTED POTENTIAL WINNER OF THE DRAW WILL BE NOTIFIED BY TELEPHONE OR E-MAIL NO LATER THAN August 30, 2023 at 5:00 pm Pacific Daylight Time using the contact information provided by the Contest entrant at the time of entering the Contest. Upon notification, THE SELECTED POTENTIAL WINNER OF THE DRAW MUST RESPOND WITHIN TEN CALENDAR DAYS by telephone or email to the contact number or email address provided in the notification. The selected potential winner’s response must be received by the UBC Medical Alumni Association within such ten calendar day period of such notification.
    4. If a selected potential winner fails to meet any of the requirements set out in these Official Contest Rules, they will be disqualified and another entrant will be selected from the remaining eligible entrants and, upon notification, will have TEN CALENDAR days to respond.
  5. Prize
    1. The Prize is one (1) Save-on-Foods gift card valued at $50.00 CAD.
    2. The Prize must be accepted as awarded. No substitutions of the prizes are permitted except by the UBC Medical Alumni Association at its discretion. The UBC Medical Alumni Association reserves the right to substitute the Prize with another Prize of equal or greater value if any prize cannot be awarded as described for any reason. The Prize is not transferable, assignable, or redeemable for cash or credit, in whole or in part.
    3. The UBC Medical Alumni Association may require winners to sign a liability/publicity release, including a consent to UBC posting the winner’s name and photograph on its website. If a winner fails to return the contest documents within the time specified by the UBC Medical Alumni Association, they will forfeit their prize and an alternate winner will be selected.
    4. The prize will be sent by mail from the contest sponsor to the winner’s Canadian address.
  6. General Rules
    1. By participating in this contest, each entrant and winner agrees to: (a) be bound by these Official Contest Rules and the decisions of the UBC Medical Alumni Association; and (b) release and hold harmless the UBC Medical Alumni Association and the Wellness Week Organizing Committee from and against any and all liabilities, losses, claims, demands, costs and expenses (including lawyer’s fees and litigation expenses on a solicitor and own client basis) whatsoever to which any of them may become subject arising from any actions or omissions by the entrant.
    2. By participating in this contest, each entrant and winner agrees that the UBC Medical Alumni Association may post the winner’s name on its website.
    3. The decisions of the UBC Medical Alumni Association in relation to this contest will be final and binding on all entrants.
    4. The UBC Medical Alumni Association reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or suspend this contest, at its discretion, at any time without prior notice.
    5. Each Prize claim is subject to verification by the UBC Medical Alumni Association and/or its designated representatives. Entries made with multiple addresses, under multiple identities, or through the use of any device or other method to enter multiple times or entries that are in excess of the permitted number of entries are automatically void. All contest entries obtained through unauthorized sources or which are incomplete or in any way not in compliance with these Official Contest Rules are automatically void. The UBC Medical Alumni Association is not responsible for lost or late entries. The UBC Medical Alumni Association is not responsible for any miscommunications, failed communications systems, software malfunctions, or for any human errors in connection with this contest. The UBC Medical Alumni Association may suspend or terminate this contest if the UBC Medical Alumni Association is of the view this contest’s administration or fair play has been compromised.
