The UBC Medical Alumni Association (MAA) is pleased to announce the long-awaited return of Wine & Wisdom!

Join us at the MSAC on February 22nd for a fantastic evening of wine, education, and networking! This event features a guided wine tasting with Iain Philip, a world-renowned Wine & Spirit Education Trust educator. Register early to deepen your knowledge of wine aromatics and enlighten your senses on tasting notes.

Mother, Olympian, physiatrist, and UBC alum, Dr. Kaila Holtz, MD’18 will be sharing a wealth of knowledge on topics surrounding MD mental health and burnout. This will be a great night of wine and conversations with colleagues and friends that you won’t want to miss!

Wine Expert

Iain Philip

Iain Philip DipWSET gained his Wine & Spirit Education Trust diploma in 2001 and has actively been teaching all levels of WSET classes ever since. He has subsequently gained both his French Wine Scholar and Spanish Wine Scholar with highest honours. He currently teaches both of these courses for the Wine Scholar Guild. Iain is an Italian Wine Ambassador as granted by the Vinitaly International Academy, a VDP Wine Ambassador from Germany and a Cavaleiro in the Port Wine Brotherhood. He is a sought-after educator and presenter representing wine regions from all over the world.

Dr. Kaila Holtz, MD’18
Medical Director, Triumph Health

Dr. Kaila Holtz is a mom, Wife, Olympian, Physiatrist, and owner of Triumph Health, an Interventional Orthopedics and Sports Medicine clinic in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has been coaching and mentoring for over 20 years and recently won an Early Career Clinical Faculty Award at UBC for her work. She values community, “the truth,” and personal growth. She loves reading non-fiction, writing reports while listening to Taylor Swift, lifting weights in her garage and her favorite Peloton Instructor is Ally Love. In the second half of her professional life, Dr. Holtz is on a mission to teach high achievers how to survive burnout and live authentically while pursuing excellence.
