UBC MedPlay is an annual theatre production performed and produced by medical students from the UBC Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with a professional director from the community. Each year, students volunteer as cast members, crew, and producers to create unique productions of noteworthy plays, including God of Carnage, Clue on Stage, and Everybody.
During the many months of preparation, the Medical Student & Alumni Centre (MSAC) in Vancouver serves as space for students to plan, rehearse, and design sets, and then finally to host the annual event itself over a series of weeks for hundreds of guests. Proceeds from each year’s production support a local charity.
In its 20-year history, MedPlay has collaborated with over 1000 medical students and community members, raising over $20,000 for various local charities, including Vancouver Native Health Society, Hope Air, and the YMCA Healthy Heart Program.
2021 UBC MedPlay – February 26-28 and March 5-7, 2021
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 MedPlay will be performed as a radio-play, allowing students, alumni, and members of the medical community to enjoy these student performances wherever they are. Tickets are currently on sale for this year’s rendition of Art by playwright Yasmina Reza (translated by Christopher Hampton). The comedy is about three long-time friends who have differing opinions on what constitutes art.
