MSAC Vancouver Updates

June 24, 2022

MSAC Vancouver has been undergoing a years-long process of applying for funding in order to undergo significant renovations to improve the safety and sustainability of the building. We are pleased to announce that we have received a sizable grant for sprinkler system installation, lighting and electrical upgrades, and air conditioning installation in Hardwick Hall and the Alumni Room. These renovations will make an incredible improvement to MSAC so that we can provide a safe and comfortable social and recreational space for UBC MD students, alumni, residents, and MAA members for years to come.

In order to complete this work, MSAC Vancouver, including the gym, will be temporarily closed as of Monday, July 18th.

We hope to reopen in November, but we will send out another announcement when we have a confirmed date.

While at MSAC, we ask you to observe the following:

  • Daily health self-assessments: All students, faculty, staff, and others must assess themselves daily for COVID-19 symptoms prior to engaging in in-person UBC activities on UBC Premises.
  • Stay home if you are sick: If you are ill or believe you have COVID-19 symptoms or been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 use the Thrive Health self-assessment tool for guidance, or download the BC COVID-19 Support App for iOS or Android device and follow the instructions provided. Follow the advice from Public Health.
  • Mandatory training: All faculty, staff and student-staff must complete the mandatory online training module ‘UBC Go Forward COVID-19 Safety Planning Training’ before accessing UBC Premises.
  • Face coverings: Face coverings (a medical or non-medical mask, or a tightly woven fabric) are required for all indoor public areas at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, including lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, classrooms and labs.
  • Signage: Everyone must follow relevant signage when moving around UBC campuses or worksites.
  • COVID-19 safety plans & communicable disease plans: Supervisors will ensure that all faculty, staff and contractors are familiar with the latest guidance from the Provincial Health Officer as it relates to their work areas.
