Dr. Richard Warren is a 2020 recipient of the UBC Medical Alumni Association Wallace Wilson Leadership Award.
Dr. Warren is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of British Columbia in the Division of Plastic Surgery. He is currently Medical Director of the Vancouver Plastic Surgery Center.
Dr. Warren was born and raised in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada. He attended UBC, doing Mathematics and then Medical School, graduating in 1974. He did a rotating internship in California, then Plastic Surgery Residency at UBC (graduation 1981) followed by a Fellowship in Norfolk Virginia.
He began practice in Vancouver in 1983 and became Head of the Division of Plastic Surgery at UBC from 1992 to 2003. He is a past president of the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the Northwest Society of Plastic Surgeons, and he is past director of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
His nonclinical interests focused on resident education and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons where he was Chair of the Plastic Surgery Exam Board and Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Specialty Committee from 2010 to 2014. He was also a Senior Examiner with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Warren has multiple publications, including 15 textbook chapters and a 1000-page textbook on aesthetic plastic surgery. He has given over 500 invited presentations at universities and conferences around the world. He was Section Editor for the Editorial Board of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. He has won numerous awards including the Award of Special Merit from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Outstanding Service Award from the Northwest Society of Plastic Surgeons, the President’s Medal from the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery.
