Dr. Kenneth Gin, MD’85

Dr. Kenneth Gin is a 2020 recipient of the UBC Medical Alumni Association Wallace Wilson Leadership Award.

Dr. Gin graduated MD at UBC in 1985, and completed his internal medicine and adult cardiology training, followed by an echocardiography fellowship. Appointed by the UBC Department of Medicine and VGH Division of Cardiology in 1992, he achieved the rank of Clinical Professor in 2008. He was Director, UBC Postgraduate Cardiology Program for 10 years until 2009; under his tutelage the program grew from 2 residents to 17. From 2009 to 2012, Dr. Gin served as Head of the UBC Division of Cardiology for Vancouver Acute. From 2009 to 2020, he served as Head of the VGH Division of Cardiology and he just accepted the position as the Head of Department of Medicine for Vancouver Acute. As of January 2015, he was appointed as the Regional Program Medical Director for the Regional Cardiac Program.

He has received numerous teaching awards, including the prestigious 2010 UBC Killam Teaching Prize and the 2011 Canadian Cardiovascular Society Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Gin has published over 100 articles. In 2013 he received the Clinical Excellence award from VGH, and in 2015 he received the Faculty of Medicine’s Clinical Faculty Award for Career Excellence in Clinical Teaching. Dr. Gin was elected to Fellowship in the Canadian Cardiovascular Society in 2018. He has sat on the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Executive, and leads the Canadian Journal of Cardiology committee. He is the chair of the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, the largest cardiovascular meeting in Canada for 2018 and 2019.
