Dr. McArthur walked through how to assess wine through the senses, explained the science of wine tasting, and gave some great tips on how to be a smart wine shopper. By the end of the event, guests came away with a great appreciation and skills to assess wine in their lives!

We look forward to the next Wine & Wisdom and similar events in the future for our alumni and medical community.

On December 6th, the UBC Medical Alumni Association hosted our popular Wine and Wisdom event to kick off the holiday season. We welcomed Faculty of Medicine alumni, students, residents, and faculty & staff with a glass of prosecco while guests mixed and mingled at the beginning of the evening. Thank you to Dr. Allard for the warm introduction to the evening’s programme and many thanks to Liberty Wine Merchants for assembling a tasting of three wines for all to try. Liberty Wine Merchants walked through each tasting with notes from the varietal, area the wine was produced, history behind the wine, and what you could expect to smell and taste. Following the wine tasting portion of the evening, we welcomed Dr. Maryam Zeineddin (MD’03) who we shared her experience with balancing time between being a family practice physician, being a mother of two children, and a vast range of other commitments. Dr. Zeineddin shared different ways that she uses to de-stress herself, such as allocating time to do meditation every day and going on hikes. She highlighted that everyone should find a hobby they enjoy doing to help de-stress and keep them motivated.

We hope everyone who attended enjoyed this event and we look forward to bringing you more MAA events in 2019!
