Professor Emeritus Sydney M. Friedman, FRSC, passed away on February 16th, 2015, one day before his 99th birthday. Sydney and his wife, Constance Livingstone Friedman, came to UBC in 1950 as founding members of the Faculty of Medicine, where they taught the first graduating class of 1954. Sydney was Head of the Department of Anatomy from 1950-1981; his contributions to the greater scientific community were well recognized. The Friedman Building was constructed in 1961 and the Annex 1967.
Sydney requested that no memorial service take place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Friedman Scholars Program at UBC.
